Adding and editing a task is done in the Add/Edit Task dialog:

This section describes the fields in the tabs on the Add/Edit Task dialog:
When you are done editing the task, click the OK button to save your edits or the Cancel button to exit without saving. Clicking Help brings up this help file.
Note: All tabs have the same three buttons (OK, Cancel, Help) at the bottom of the window; however, the buttons are not shown in every screenshot.
There are five fields and a button on the General tab: Name, Date, UnSchedule, Priority, Start Time, and End Time.
|
Name: |
Enter the name of the task. If you add a Reminder
for this task after the task has been saved, the task name is displayed
in the pop-up reminder window.
Note: If you save a task without giving it a name, a placeholder (a small square) appears in the Project View or Daily Tasks list, or the selected time is highlighted in the Appointment grid.
|
|
Date: |
If you add a task in the Daily Tasks list or the Appointment
grid, today's date is automatically filled in. If you add a task in the
Weekly or Monthly View, the selected day's date is automatically filled
in. To enter or change a date, click in the Date: field; today's date
appears, and you can change the month, day, or year segments.
You can also click the down-arrow button on the right to display a monthly calendar. Use the left-arrow and right-arrow buttons to change months. Click on a day to select it.
Note: If a task is scheduled (i.e., it has an assigned date), you cannot create a subtask under it in the Project View. |
| The UnSchedule button clears the Date (and Start Time and
End Time) fields. If the task had been previously saved, it will now appear
only in the Project View (whether it was originally created in the Project
View or not).
Note: If the task is a repeating task, it will continue to be shown in the Daily Tasks List and Project View as a repeating task. | |
| You set a priority for a task by clicking on the priority
letter (highlighting it) to activate the field. If no number is inserted,
the priority defaults to 0. To unassign a priority, choose "NONE"
in the priority list for that task.
| |
|
Start Time: |
If you add a task in the Appointment grid, the day's date
and time are automatically filled in. Click in either the Start Time field
or End Time field and enter a value or use the up or down arrows to specify
an appointment time.
|
|
End Time: |
You can specify times to the minute,
but the End Time must be at least 15 minutes after the Start Time. (If
it isn't, the software will make it so.)
Note: If a task includes a scheduled time, you cannot create a subtask under it in the Project View. |
There are two sections on the Category/Color tab: Custom Text Colors and Category.
|
Custom Text Colors |
Click the checkbox to activate custom color selection.
Clicking on either Text Color or Background brings up the color selection window.
Click on a basic color, click in the color block, or use the slider on the far right to select the color you want. The selected color is shown in the Color/Solid box below the color block. Click OK to select the color or Cancel to quit. Note: When you select custom text colors for a task in the Project View, the same colors will be used for all subtasks under that task. |
| Click on one of the category icons to
assign that icon to the task.
Click the Use Icon checkbox to display the selected icon in front of the task name.
|

You can set multiple reminders for any task. Click "Add" to add a new reminder, or click "Edit" to edit an existing reminder. "Delete" deletes a selected reminder, and "Delete All" deletes all reminders.
To add or edit a reminder, enter the information on the Add/Edit Reminder dialog. (If the task had been saved earlier, the task name becomes the default reminder text, with "10 minutes before" as the default time.)
Specify the text for the reminder, and when the reminder will be scheduled. Be sure to click the time increment (Minutes Before, Hours Before, or Days Before) to select it. The Reminder icon (a bell) will appear next to the task.
Note: The Reminder uses the Windows Default Beep sound when it pops up.
You can launch another file or program from the reminder by entering its path in the "Perform Using:" field. If you also check the "Perform Without Waiting" checkbox, the program launches automatically (without waiting for you to click OK in the popup reminder window. (This example automatically starts playing calming New Age music half an hour before you're supposed to leave for the dentist.)
To make a spoken reminder, enter the text you want to hear, set the time you want to hear it (relative to the time/date set on the General tab), and check the Speak Reminder checkbox.
Note: To set up or change the speech components, see Setting Up Speech Components.
Use Notes for extra information about a task. When you enter text in this field, the Notes icon is displayed after the task name.
When you "mouse-over" a task that has a note, the task name and the note are displayed in a popup "tool tip."
Click the checkbox to activate the field. The default is to repeat the task daily. You must click on the repetition type to change it. If you select Every Week, you can then click the checkbox of the day(s) when you want the task to repeat.
Note: When you delete a repeating task, all instances of the task are deleted. You cannot use "Mark Task Done" on a repeating task.
Note: If you select Every Month, the task repeats on the same day of each month. Currently ADD Planner does not support repeating monthly on a day of week (the 3rd Tuesday of the month, for example).
Note: "Perform Task" and "Add'l Info" are configured the same.
The Perform a Task and View Additional Info commands allow you to launch other files or programs from ADD Planner. This tab is where you enter the name of a program, a specific file you're working on, or the complete URL of a web page.
To specify a program or file, click the button to the right of the text field. You will then see a system file browser window:
Change the Type of File: to the appropriate file extension. Browse to the program or file you want and click Open. The path to the file now appears in the text box.
To specify a web page, enter the complete URL (including http://) of the page in the text box.
