How ADD Planner Can Help You Break Tasks Into Manageable Pieces

Many people with ADD have trouble breaking large tasks into manageable pieces. Part of the problem is that most people with ADD are right-brain thinkers.

Here is a comparison of right-brain and left-brain thinkers:

Right brain thinker    Left brain thinker
  • Is visually and spatially oriented
  • Is linear and detail oriented
  • Predominately sees "the big picture"
  • Predominately sees individual pieces
  • Sees patterns and relationships within information
  • Sees ordered sequences of information

ADD Planner helps you break down tasks and projects with the Project View.

Breaking Down a Project in the Project View

There are many ways to plan a project. One of the easiest is: start with the goal. You then ask yourself "What do I need to do to get this thing done?"

For example, say you want to redo your kitchen. Here's one way to plan the project in the Project View:

    1. Start with the name of the project, Redo kitchen. Under Redo Kitchen, add the areas of the kitchen you want to redo - walls, floors, and cabinets.

    2. Ask yourself what you need to do the walls - you'll need to buy paint, patch the cracks, and then paint.

    3. Ask yourself what you need to do before buying paint - you remember that it's very important to decide on the color with your spouse, which means you'll need to go to the paint store to pick up sample color chips.

    4. At this point, going to the paint store is a manageable task, and you can schedule a time to do it.

The scheduled task appears in the Project View and the Daily Tasks List.

You keep breaking down each branch of the project until:

    • You have tasks that you know how to do.
    • You've included all the details that you need.
