How ADD Planner Helps You Manage Transitions

Transitions - changing from one activity to another - can be difficult for many people with ADD because every transition requires two "state changes" - first stopping what we were doing and then starting something else.

Some of us seem to follow Newton's First Law of Motion: "A body at rest tends to remain at rest and a body in motion tends to remain in motion unless acted on by an external force." The external force can be someone nagging us - or it could be a computer program.

ADD Planner has two features that can help you manage transitions: multiple reminders, and automatic program launch.

Managing Transitions with Multiple Reminders

You can set as many reminders as you need to prepare yourself for a transition.

ADD Planner also has a built-in 30-minute countdown reminder that gives you spoken reminders at 30, 20, 15, 10, and 5 minutes before it's time to leave, so that you don't lose track of time. The final reminder, "You have to leaver RIGHT NOW!" comes up when it's time to go.

You need to leave RIGHT NOW reminder

Using the 30-minute Countdown Reminder To Manage Transitions

Many of us have trouble leaving on time. To leave on time simply drag the "30-minute Countdown Reminder" task from the Project View to the time you need to leave.

If you need to leave at 5 PM, you'll hear the first reminder "You need to leave in 30 minutes" at 4:30 PM.

Managing Transitions with Automatic Program Launch

Sometimes we need external help to start doing a new activity, especially if it involves finding the material we need to do the job. If the material you need is on your computer, such as a weekly status report, ADD Planner can help you get started with automatic program launch.

Using Automatic Program Launch To Manage Transitions

Here's how you configure a reminder to automatically launch a Word file and speak the text of the reminder.

And here's what your screen will look like before ...

... and after automatic program launch.

It's a lot easier to start a task when the file you need pops up right in front of you just when you need it.
